What does it mean to have good back space?

How are you singers?  Surviving?  I hope so.

This has been such a tough time for everyone, not just singers.  However, as we get close to the year mark of “dealing with Covid” it’s entirely understandable that some of us have not had a chance to practice even the basics.

Back space can be an elusive concept.  We can’t truly feel our soft palate directly, and when you start to layer in all of the subjective qualities a voice can have, it’s easy to get tied up very quickly.  Many of us in an effort to utilize more effective back space end up doing more harm than good.  Try the following out and see if these ideas and concepts help you to find more ease and precision in your singing.

Hang in there, singers, and don’t forget to check out the other videos on Survival for Singers on YouTube!
